Habits that survive a bad week.
The hard part of eating well is not knowing what to do. It is picking it back up after the week that got away from you. Fotocal counts the days you log and marks the habits you tick, and it is built so that missing some of them costs you nothing.

Miss a day and the app says your streak paused.
Log one meal and the day counts. Miss one and nothing turns red, nothing is disabled and the word “lost” never appears. What the screen actually says is that your streak paused and today is a fresh start, next to the length of your longest one, which it keeps.
- A saver covers a missed day on its own. You earn one at each milestone and can hold three at a time.
- If a streak does end, logging two days running puts it back where it was rather than at one.
- Your longest run is kept and shown whatever the current one is doing.
- There is no penalty, no lost progress and nothing to buy back. The diary is unaffected either way.
What it says on the day you miss.
Not our paraphrase. These are the sentences in the app, and they are the reason this page can promise what it promises.
Your streak paused. Today's a fresh start.
Your 12-day streak ended — missing a day doesn't undo your progress. Your longest is still 30 days, and Today can start the next one.
Yesterday stayed empty — log today and a saver covers it.
Log a meal today and tomorrow to pick your streak back up where it was.
The numbers in the second one are an example; the app fills in your own.

Eleven to choose from. Seven tick themselves.
You pick the ones you care about at setup and can change them later. Most of them the app can see for itself from what you have already logged, so they mark themselves off without you touching anything.
The first seven fill themselves in from your water, your meals and your step count. The last four are yours to tick or leave.
A place to write it down, and that is all it is.
You can add a note to any day and tag it from a list of fifty — moods, symptoms, and the ordinary facts of a week. It is a record you keep for yourself.
Being straight about the limits: nothing reads these notes back to you. The app does not connect a mood to a meal, does not look for patterns across them, and does not send them to Coach Kal. They sit in a list you can scroll, newest first. If a page tells you an app will reveal how your feelings and your food connect, it is describing something this one does not do.
None of this is a score for you.
- A broken streak is a gap in a log. It is not willpower, discipline or character, and the app is built not to imply otherwise.
- Logging every day is a measure of how often you opened an app. Plenty of people eat well and log badly.
- Food is not a reward or a punishment here, and nothing you eat is earned or owed. A meal is a meal.
- If counting starts making you feel worse rather than better informed, the right move is to stop counting, not to count harder.
If food or your mood is hard right now, please talk to someone
Fotocal is not a medical device and it is not mental health support. Some of the things you can tag a day with — a binge, a low mood — are worth telling a doctor about rather than an app, and the app will not notice them or reply to them. If you are struggling with food, with eating, or with how you are feeling, speak to a doctor, a registered dietitian or a mental health professional. A tracking app is the wrong tool for that, and stopping it for a while is a reasonable thing to do.

A week is a fairer unit than a day.
One day tells you almost nothing. The weekly report pulls seven of them together and it opens on the free plan. Two cards inside it need Premium: the full nutrition table and the vitamins and minerals card.
- Coach Kal is free on every plan, with no message limit, if you want to ask it something after a week that went badly
- Days you did not log show as gaps rather than as zeros, because the app does not know what you ate
- Reminders are yours to set: you choose the times, daily or on chosen days, and they repeat
Questions about streaks and habits
What happens if I miss a day?
If you have a saver, it covers the day and the streak carries on. If you do not, the count goes to zero and the screen says your streak paused and today is a fresh start. Your longest run is kept. Log two days running and the old streak comes back at its full length rather than starting again at one. Nothing else in the app changes, and your diary is untouched.
Does the mood journal tell me anything?
No, and we would rather say so. It stores what you write and the tags you pick, and shows them back as a list by date. It does not correlate moods with meals, does not look for patterns, and does not pass them to Coach Kal. It is useful as a diary, which is a real thing to be, but it will not hand you an insight.
Can I turn the streak off?
Not today, and it is fair to want to. It is a small pill in the corner of the home screen showing a flame and a number, and it does not appear anywhere else or send you anything on its own. If streak counts are not good for you, that pill is the only place you will meet it.
Do the habits nag me?
No. Seven of the eleven tick themselves from what you have already logged, and the app never un-ticks one once the day is done. The only notifications you get are reminders you set yourself, at times you chose.
